Both portable mono-pack, or body-type, hearing aids make use of vacuum tubes for amplification. The devices are each composed of thin gold-colored metals and dark plastics, each overall roughly rectangular--4 1/2"x 2 5/16"x 1". The manufacturer's name is present upon the faces; one is printed with an iconic image of a telephone and the words 'phone magnet'. The combination volume control/on-off dial, tone selector, and microphone switch are all located along the each artifact's side, adjacent to their inscribed labels: VOLUME / TONE / TEL / MIKE / A1 / A2. The microphones are themselves each recessed into circular depressions, flanked by garment clips, and covered with a perforated plates and an embossed manufacturer's logos--a crowned coat-of-arms. The backs are inscribed: Zenith / SUPER-ROYAL / the royalty of hearing. The 22-volt 'B' batteries and the additional 'A' batteries [all absent...8 total...4 each] may be accessed through a hinged compartment on this side; diagrams and two statements are printed here: PATENTS PENDING ON MICROPHONE STANDBY FILAMENT SUPPLY AND OTHER FEATURES / GUARANTEE VOID IF THIS COVER IS REMOVED / CAUTION: TURN VOLUME CONTROL SWITCH OFF BEFORE REPLACING BATTERIES. A thinly insulated cord runs from a receptacle at the top of one device to an air-conduction receiver ear-piece outfitted with a translucent plastic tip. A hinged lid bisects the single faux-leather case. The interior is outfitted with yellow satin and dark blue felt; the tray is indented, allowing the instrument to fit snugly in place. The box is overall rectangular with rounded corners--1 1/4"x 3 3/8"x 5 7/8".
